ST. LOUIS – Indiana State University and Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium will be the host for the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship, MVC commissioner Doug Elgin announced on Thursday (May 16). The eight-team tournament will be held on May 20-24, 2014.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to host the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship in 2014,” said Indiana State Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman. “This will be a terrific opportunity for Indiana State University and the city of Terre Haute to host seven other Universities, student-athletes, parents, fans and others. They will stay in our hotels and eat in our restaurants. Some of the finest collegiate baseball players in the nation will participate in this event. It is my hope that our local community and youth sport leagues will take advantage of this opportunity to see some of the finest collegiate baseball in the nation.”
The 2014 MVC Baseball Tournament will feature Bradley, Dallas Baptist, Evansville, Illinois State, tournament-host Indiana State, Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Wichita State. The winner of the double-elimination tournament will receive the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
“This is great news for Indiana State, our baseball program and Terre Haute,” said ISU head baseball coach Rick Heller. “To host the MVC Baseball Tournament is a big deal for the entire community. This is a nice reward for the improvements made to our stadium over the last three years ago. We couldn’t be happier!”
Indiana State will be hosting the conference tournament for the second time in program history, also serving as the site host during the 1982 season.
The amenities within Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium have seen numerous upgrades since the 2009-10 academic year. Among the stadium’s features are: 2,000 seats for spectators, a locker room and clubhouse for Indiana State and staff members, a FieldTurf infield and natural grass outfield, an indoor practice facility just two blocks from the stadium, a renovated press box and a new outfield wall. The field was named after legendary Indiana State head coach Bob Warn during the 2010 season. Warn led the Sycamores to 1,070 wins from 1976 to 2006, including an appearance in the 1986 College World Series.
Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium is located on the corner of 1st and Locust in Terre Haute.
