Most of this trail follows the former Terre Haute, Brazil & Eastern (also Vandalia) RR, an abandoned east-west line which connected to Indianapolis. The Twigg rest area serves as an historically remarkable trailhead. The trail continues as a bike lane west of 13th Street, then picks up as an interesting urban pathway along 4th Street beside the ISU campus.
